June 28, 2011

When in Manila and too lazy to step out of the house to have your nail art done in the nail salon, I am happy to share with you gals that I Do Nails specifically caters to the women (and the men apparently!) who want to have their nail art (not for the men though) done in the comfort of their own homes.

I’ve just recently become a fan of nail art and have gotten quite addicted to it and there are many salons in the metro that we’ve even featured here that are really good in providing this particular service. I will have to admit though, that there are days when I’m just too lazy to get out of the house and I really  wanted to find a salon that did this service at home and i could not find a salon that offered home service for nail art because everyone just offered the regular manicure and pedicure. I mean sure, some offered great colors for nail polish, but unfortunately, none offered nail art. It took me a while to find one and when I did, I became an instant fan.

I found “I Do Nails” via facebook. I was so frustrated with a lady that promised to do my nails on a particular day only to cancel at the last minute. In my frustration, I simply posted on my wall and asked if anybody knew of a salon that did nail art at home and voila! I Do Nails was on top of her list. I’ve had a busy week as well so I had to squeeze in the appointment while I had to do my radio show on Mellow 94.7 and my radio partner was more than happy to have her nails done too.

The ladies from I Do Nails arrived at the appointed time but I was running late so I texted my radio partner to go ahead without me and as soon as I arrived, she seemed quite content being pampered by Rose and RC from I do Nails. It was pretty impressive how the nail technicians came in with a huge luggage bag and inside were all the things they needed to give us beautiful nails. I took pictures of my happy partner and here she is enjoying the whole experience!

I was also happy to find that I Do Nails carries good quality nail polish brands such as OPI, Orly and Essie plus they have a wide array of colors for you to choose from. The way they do their nail art is also interesting! I’ve seen how in salons, their nail technicians would draw or paint images on my nails, but this time, they stamped the designs on our fingernails instead. You could choose nail designs from the templates that they have on small silver plates.

Jaybee and I both decided to get zebra prints on our nails but we chose different colors. She decide to go with pink and black while I went for dark purple and white. The process looked simple enough, first they would put nail polish on the template, then scrape the rest down so the nail polish would follow the grooves of the template and take the rest off and then they took a stamp-like gadget (i prefer the word toy actually) and would stamp it on our fingernails, and they finally finished it off with a top coat.

Obviously content with her nails, I was eager to have mine done as well. We had to go on air in a bit but that did not stop me and Jaybee from continuing what had already been started. So here we are, hard at work, and equally hard at play.

Our Sundays are usually lazy, spent on pampering ourselves for the coming week ahead. One particular evening, instead of heading out to get our nails done, Danah and I decided to try the services of newest nail spa at the comfort of our home--I Do Nails!

I Do Nails's setup is impressive. Actually, everything about I Do Nails is impressive. The nail technicians came on time, all dressed up neatly for the job, wearing an apron, a hair net, and a head band. They provided all the essentials needed for the service availed, making the experience as legit as being inside a nail spa! They also prepared the set up pretty fast--it was all done in (more or less) ten minutes!

I tried their Ooh La La foot spa (includes soak + scrub + mint mask + shape + massage + paint priced at P400) and the I Do Nails manicure (includes soak + shape + massage + paint priced at P180), and I must say, it was really a relaxing and satisfying experience! The nail technician who worked on my hands and feet was very hygienic, making sure her hands were clean at all times.

When the nail technician (I should get her name next time) was done with all the scrubbing and massaging, she proceeded to cleaning and shaping my nails. Okay, every time it gets to this part of the service, I get praning (paranoid) because I've had a bad experience of getting the sides of my toes pushed way too deep, causing ingrown nails. :( So I made it clear to her that I don't want my cuticles removed (reason: nail cuticles are there to nix infection-causing bacteria from penetrating the base of your nails), and I don't want my toes harassed with the nipper/pusher, and I'm happy to say that she knows how to follow orders. I say this because I've also had an (annoying) experience with a nail technician who agreed to not cut my cuticles but insisted in removing just the "dry skin"--so I let her--but then when I saw my hands, my cuticles were gone! :( Good thing I Do Nails technicians are not like that--they are all well-trained and know how to follow orders. :D

I Do Nails
Tel. Nos.: 502-9099, 635-2654
Areas covered: Marikina, Pasig and Quezon City; other areas require a minimum of P1,000 in services (1 p.m. - 9 p.m.)
Price: Manicures start at P90 and pedicures start at P130, nail packages and sparty packages available

The lowdown: The courteous technician arrived 30 minutes earlier than scheduled, donned an apron, a headband, and a hairnet. She set up her mat, foot spa equipment, sweet-smelling towels and the manicure set all under 10 minutes. She brought pillows and a neck rest to make the session as comfortable as possible.

The basic mani-pedi included a foot soak with oil. The technician asked about our preferences every step of the way, like if we wanted our nails and cuticles trimmed and how the nails should be shaped. We also loved how the nail polish on our hands and feet lasted for two weeks.

Thumbs-up for: I Do Nails' high regard for cleanliness and comfort got plus points and their selection of nail polish hues from OPI and Essie were not your run-of-the-mill salon colors. The technician's massage skills were also much-appreciated--our hands and feet got expert kneading before they applied the nail polish.

“I stick to wine or fuchsia hues for my nails, and prefer baby pinks like Chanel Le Vernis in Ballerina on my toes. What I’m really loving right now is the Nail Stamping service from I Do Nails (0917-5315365). They can stamp cute designs like hounds tooth, hearts, animal prints, and even shooting stars on to your nails. The best part is, it’s a home-service nail spa, so it’s super convenient.”—Margaux Romero, freelance fashion stylist and entrepreneur

Treatment: Nail Stamping

Where to Try It: I Do Nails, Tel. 502-9099, 635-2654, 0917-5315365. Open daily, 1 p.m., last call at 8 p.m.

How Much:P180

Why It’s A Must-Try: This budget-friendly, at-home nail spa is quite impressive. They use toxin-free nail polishes that are safe for pregnant ladies (for an additional P60, you can use their luxe Chanel and Dior polish). They also have cooling cucumber pads for your eyes and give soothing hand massages, so you can relax while you get your tips done.

The Procedure: You can choose from over 20 stencil designs that range from houndstooth, hearts, lace and animal prints. First, they apply the base polish using the color of your choice, just like a regular manicure. Then, you can choose a different nail hue for the stamping. The Tesda-accredited nail technicians sweep the polish over the stencil and stamp it over your nails and voilà—cute and unique prints on your fingernails.

The Results: Nail Stamping can take anywhere between 30 minutes to over an hour, depending on the shape of your nails. It’s worth it though because once your friends see your supercool nails, they’ll “ooh” and “aah” with envy.

Maintain It: Reapply a thin layer of clear polish every two to three days to help prevent chips or cracks. Also remember to wear rubber gloves if you’ve got dishwashing duty—this’ll help prolong your mani and keep your hands soft, too!

THANKS NICOLE! :)

Looking for a place to get your nails done?

What better place is there than your very own house?

I'm not very choosy when it comes to nail spas—although I'd much rather do my own nails. I like being in the comfort of my room, using my own polish, and having full control over my cuticles. But when I was asked to try this relatively new home service nail spa, I figured why not?

I set an appointment with I Do Nails at 3pm on a holiday. They were at my house promptly before 3pm. They set up a small nail station in the middle of my living room. I browsed through their services and decided to get a basic mani-pedi. The I Do Nails Manicure and Pedicure (soak + shape + massage + paint) is a steal at P130 and P150 respectively.

I was curious about these circular metal templates they had, so I asked what they were for. For an additional P50, I could actually get my nails "stamped" with a pattern over my manicure. I'm a sucker for pretty lace-like patterns that look like doilies so I quickly chose one that looked exactly like that. And I'm glad that I did because a week later, I still can't stop looking at my pretty tips!

What I loved about I Do Nails is that the nail technicians ask you how you want your nails cleaned (push my cuticles, please) and shaped (round squares!). They ask before they cut your nails and ask whether you want just one coat or two of polish (personally, I like just one on my toes).

I Do Nails is in Libis so me being in the Tomas Morato area, the minimum would be around P1000 for me. That's kind of steep if I'm only going to get a mani-pedi, but if I ask my friends to come over and turn it into a Spaaarty, that's so affordable! Even if I can do my own nails, I wouldn't mind calling to have them over again.

Shaking hands with your office/school crush whom you've been introduced to the first time... Prancing around in your new peep-toe pumps... Holding a cocktail glass while gabbing for hours on end at a hip hangout... These are just some of the many scenarios where you wouldn't want to be caught with unkempt fingernails and toenails. DIY mani-pedis may save you some money. But what's an hour or less spent in the nail salon and spa, and maybe a few hundred bucks, when it's your personal image (and hygiene!) on the line? Still, you can actually skip the going to the salon part. This nail service will come to you.

We love the convenience that home-service mani-pedis like I Do Nails provide busy women like you, Cosmo chicks. With just one phone call, you can get someone to do your nails, right in the comfort of your own home. But this isn't like your mom's suking manikurista. Not only will the friendly and courteous TESDA-qualified staff clean, shape, and paint your nails, they'll also massage, scrub, and wax your hands and feet. They use only high end nail-care products like Chanel, Orly, Essie, and OPI, both organic and non-organic scrubs, and thoroughly sterilized and sanitized tools, ensuring comfortable and high-quality service.

Come on, you deserve to feel like a queen every once in a while--without hurting your pocket, too. Try the Happy Weekend Package, P600, which includes a mani-pedi, as well as a hand and foot massage, mask, and scrub. If you want to glam up your nails, you can request for nail art, even glitters and rhinestones. All you need to do is sit back (on a comfy chair they'd bring for you!), relax (you can even take a nap wearing their soothing cucumber eye-cooling mask), and let them take care of the rest.

You can also ask for their Spaaarty Packages, which is a great concept for bridal showers, birthday parties, or any other occasion you can think of. It's also a relaxing way of catching up with your girlfriends after a hectic week at work. Invite at least four of your gal pals for a spa party at your place, and you can instantly feel like Sex and the City chicks--without having to hit the cafe!

To book an appointment with I Do Nails, call (02)502-9099, (02)635-2654, or (0917)531-5365.There's a minimum amount of services required, depending on where you live. call them to inquire about the amount required for your area.

Okay, I don’t. But these people do:

I DO NAILS Home Service Manicure and Pedicure

Yesterday, I Do Nails went over to SoFA (School of Fashion and the Arts) to give us a taste of what they have to offer. And I must say they came in perfect timing cause we all needed our nails reconditioned after the toil our hands had to go through during finals. Plus, we needed those nails perked up too for tonight’s SoFA party!

I was immediately impressed when I saw the setup they had done in one of our labs. A row of towel-covered chairs, clean floor mats, presentable technicians in uniforms were all set and ready to do their services. And then I saw their neatly organized, boxed-up nail kits and their array of nail colors which really just enticed me more! They had with them a great selection of hues and they offered polishes by brands like O.P.I. and Essie.

The whole manicure procedure took only around 20 minutes which I very much appreciated because I had to rush to a shoot afterwards and I didn’t have much time to spare (more on the shoot when the actual video is released). What I liked was that my technician sped up when I asked her to without compromising on the quality of her service. She really took care of my nails and made sure that she still treated them gently. And guess what, I am loving my deep Coral fingertips now! Thanks to I Do Nails! :)

And look! Here’s what one of my friends tried out, nail stamping! Check out those awesome houndstooth nails! Cool huh? Really pretty, Mads. :)

I do recommend you to try their packages and services out, you’ll love them! For bookings and reservations contact them at 635-2654 and 502-9099 or at 0917-5315365. For more information, you can also visit their site atwww.idonailshomeservice.multiply.com :)

Set Up
I chose to have my nail services right after work at night so it was a pleasant surprise to come home and to see a wonderful lounge chair set up right smack in the middle of my den. What a way to end the day!

Everything looked really neat, and more importantly, clean and my two technicians, RC and Lorie made sure to place a mat around the area, so as not to wet the floor, and had fresh towels ready. While sitting, they offered me a neck pillow to rest my head on. After choosing to get a Soothing Mind Package (Manicure plus Crème de la Crème Pedicure), P400, I sat back and relaxed and enjoyed.

Service
They had a great selection of polishes with brands like O.P.I. and Essie. They were separated into two groups, one for manicures and one for pedicures which I thought was a really hygienic detail.

The one thing that I'm most particular about when getting my nails done is actually the shape. Although at first RC didn't quite get my “roundish-square” description, she patiently filed away until I was satisfied. All in all, everything was done well and
I also appreciated the fact that the entire service didn't take a whole lot of time.

General Comments:
Although I love getting my nails done, I often find myself bored not being able to flip through a magazine or read a book for a good thirty minutes to an hour. The best part of having my nails done at home was that I had my television to keep me entertained the whole time. The two girls were also very professional and gentle. I found it great to find out that the minimum amount to book was P300 (a basic manicure with polish costing P130) so I'll definitely be booking them again!

Thank you Ms. Regina :)

for everyone

I recently discovered a new at-home nail service called I Do Nails , thanks to former beauty editor of Cosmopolitan magazine Nicole De los Angeles. I’ve had my share of home service nail spas, but I have to admit, this one takes the cake. In fact my first experience with them was so good, I called them back the next week to get another treatment done! Here are the top reasons why I like them, and why you will, too.

Punctuality. I Do Nails proprietor Monica Maceda makes sure her staff gets to you 15 minutes before your schedule. She schedules appointments with enough allowance for travel and traffic, that way you don’t sit around and wait forever (which has happened quite a number of times with other home services).

Great service. The staff are well-trained (backed up by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority or TESDA), and quietly carry out their business carefully and professionally, so you don’t have to worry about them pouring out their sob story about a cheating husband or rebellious child.

Added extras. The I Do Nails technicians set up a special lounge chair that has the perfect height so you can prop your feet up comfortably on their foot stool without straining your knees. Your forearms can rest perfectly on the arm rests, too. I realized how important this kind of chair was on their second visit. I said I could manage with the living room chair (pictured here), which wasn’t as comfy as their seat. And if you’re the type to bob your head from side to side when you fall asleep (and believe me, with their light touch, you will fall asleep!), you can use the provided neck rest to keep your head in place.

I especially like their refreshing cucumber mask—cool patches that they set on your eyes to rejuvenate the blood flow in that area.

Nifty little nail chart. I don’t know about you, but when nail technicians plop a heavy basket full of nail polish bottles on my lap, I don’t want to pick up each bottle and inspect the color. It doesn’t help that I’m paranoid that I’ll knock the basket off my lap and send the bottles crashing to the floor. So when I was handed their nail polish swatch, I could instantly visualize how the shade would look on my nails.

Pocket-friendly prices. The treatments range from P90 (a quickie manicure) to P600 (the Paraffin Dip: soak + your choice of organic or non-organic scrub + Paraffin + shape + massage + paint; and the Happy Weekend Package: soak + shape + massage + paint + spa for hands and feet)—very affordable rates, especially since they use O.P.I. products.

I was never one to be addicted to manis and pedis and could go for weeks without a treatment, but these guys are close to changing my mind.

Book an appointment with I Do Nails at (02) 635-2654; (02) 502-9099; (0917) 5315365; Idonailshomeservice@yahoo.com

Happy weekend, Ladies and Gents!

Secretly, I've been dreaming of something like this. A nail spa home service that I can call whenever I'm bummed at home and my nails needing some pampering. When I got contacted to do try this nail spa home service, I immediately said yes! It was just what I'm looking for. I have a night out with the girls that night and I needed my nails spic and span. But it was a Saturday, I know that dealing with the parking at the malls would be difficult and most nail spa would probably full. But I was also making an excuse not to go out since I know that I still have to return home, park and leave again again. It was just too tiring, don't you agree?

I Do Nails nail techs, Remy and Jen, arrived about 10 minutes early. They readily set up their stuff contained in a huge suitcase. Jen unfolded the big lounge chair. I didn't really expect such lavish set-up. Remy took out the things they will be using carefully. I was excited as it is but I got more excited when I saw it all laid out.. I was like, Wow.

My small room turned instantly into a pampering spot.

Products used are high-end nail polishes like O.P.I. and Esse

Nail polish swatches

Weeee!!!

Ready with the remote because I can watch my shows while getting mani/pedi and hand and foot spa!!

I was shown the brochure and was asked the service that I wanted. They had several good packages and single services. But since it was weekend, I decided to get Happy Weekend Package.

Happy Weekend Package consists of
I Do Nails Manicure + I Do Nails Pedicure +foot spa + nail spa
Php600

Prior to the actual services, a neck/head rest was fitted on me to make me comfortable. I was also given cold eye mask that looked like over sized plastic cucumber. Boy, was that refreshing! But of course, for the purpose of this review, I had to cut that short.

Jingle, my companion at home, was nice enough to take a picture of me with the eye mask on.

Jen took care of the foot spa and pedicure. The foot spa consisted of a good bubbly soak, scrubbing of OPI Srub (I chose the scrub with a berry scent) and a minty leg mask. Then my legs and feet massage that almost made me dose off. I just love getting massages. Then, it was on to pedicure.

My hand spa, I really took seriously, since I know how hardworking these are. Treatment started with a soak, then some lovin' scrubbin from arm to hand and then the oh-so-good massage. Really, I wanted them to stay at home forever.

Below you'll find a few photos I was able to take while treatment was being done on me.

All I Do Nails are TESDA Qualified. Remy and Jen underwent good training and it shows because my nails look splendid afterward.

I rate everything A+. From how neat and clean everything they used, the tools, the brands, the service in itself and the courteous nail techs. Most of all, I was happy I didn't have to deal with traffic, parking and waiting. I had my laptop, TV, mydogs and own magazine to keep me a lot more relaxed. Best of all, I got to sleep immediately after they left. A nice end to the wonderful tow hours of pampering. :)

Thank Remy and Jen for the wonderful relaxing afternoon.

Here is the beautiful Monica who personally picked up her girls.
Such a great girl who has a good head for business. :)

I am definitely going to book another session the coming week and maybe I could ask my friends to join me so we can do Sex and The City TV marathon while getting our nails done.
Gotta ready the wine, too!
